On the weekends, Andy and I split early wake up duty. He woke up early to have Daddy Daughter time yesterday, so today it's all me. We eat toaster waffles (well, she does) and enjoy some PBS Kids.
When Andy wakes up I take a walk around the neighborhood walking trails. The fresh air helps when my stomach is feeling rough.
I see our neighborhood owl on my walk.
By the time I'm back home I'm feeling a bit better, so I grab a chunk of challah to nosh on while I plan out our weekly dinners.
I am displaced by an Orli and a baby Margaret.
I decide to make myself useful, so I repair our bird feeder that broke Saturday. I think the enterprising squirrels put too much weight on it and the cord broke, which caused the roof to break. Nothing a little wood glue and a staple gun can't fix.
We still have a two hours before our big event of the day -- Jewish Unity Day at the Chabad House -- so we decide to make a little art.
And have a family jam session. Finally, noon arrives and it is time to head over to the other side of town.
Hotdog lunch time!
And cotton candy, too. Personally, I think cotton candy is pretty gross, but Orli sure liked it.
And she got her face painted by the city famous Sarah Dippity! She made that tragic face the entire time she was getting painted, but man did she love her rainbow butterfly face!
The finished product, and just in time for...
THE MACCABEATS!
It was a pretty fun show, and I suppose it was Orli's first "concert".
We danced, of course. They sang my favorite song of theirs; a cover of Matisyahu's Miracle.
So raise your glass if you see
G-d in hidden places,
He's right in front of you,
We will never be never be anything but proud
to tell our story, v'nahafoch hu
So raise your glass if you can see
the hidden meaning,
it's right in front of you,
we will never be never be anything but proud
to tell our story, v'nahafoch hu
And then on to the Kid's Mega Challah Bake, where I was a table captain.
Here I am keeping those kids in line -- pour that flour! Stir that oil! Knead Knead Knead!
Well, I was there at least to answer questions and give baking guidance. There were no baking drills, sadly.
While the dough did its first rise and captains cleaned the tables, the kids enjoyed (and I mean ENJOYED) Sarah Dippity's magic show. She has that age group DOWN. It was like kid crack.
Rolling our dough! Then it was time to clean up and head home.
Our baked challah.
Orli ran right over to the neighbor's house to show them her face paint, and I made dinner. Mahi Mahi burgers (or boogers, as Orli calls all burgers), baked sweet potato fries, and a cinnamon fruit salad. I called in the troops and they washed their hands.
We've been working on waiting until everyone is at the table before eating. She is sighing "Why does Daddy take so long ?" She loves TJ's Mahi Mahi burgers.
After dinner we go on a family walk and Orli does a lot of jumping. And finding really, really good sticks.
We found this toy in the woods behind the house of some neighbors that just moved out. So we inherited it.
And I make lunches while Andy gives the girl her nightly bath.
What a wonderful Week in the Life it has been this week. I was really into it this year and got some wonderful photos. I'll be taking a few days to re-coop and then editing will begin so I can get our photos and stories printed in an Artifact Uprising photo book.
